Amanda Naylor National lead for young victims and young witnesses at Victim Support & Sue Thurman Registered Intermediary
This workshop will explore the challenges of supporting young victims and witnesses of child sexual abuse and exploitation through the trial process.
It will:
•Examine recent cases and the on-going poor experiences that children and young people have in the court system
•Look at new policy initiatives alongside best practice examples to determine how effective use of young witness services, special measures, and other support systems can have a positive impact
•Look at the specific role of the Intermediary and how the involvement of intermediaries impacts on the young persons experience of the criminal justice system
•Provide an opportunity for other professionals to ask questions and identify how they too can play a key role in supporting young witnesses both in preparation and post trial.
