Siblings: An Exploration

Wednesday 26th November 2014 at BPS Offices, Tabernacle Street, London

CPD Workshop including the Psychotherapy Section AGM

The BPS Psychotherapy Section is holding its AGM with wine reception and a CPD event. We would like to invite you to participate in the event. The workshop provides practitioners and trainees with an excellent opportunity to share their experiences with each other in an inter-disciplinary environment.

Learning outcomes and objectives:

  • Learning about the power of small groups to illuminate personal psychology and personal history.
  • Providing a thinking space to reflect on sibling issues in one's personal history and current groups.

The significance and importance of a child's relationship with parents has long been a focus of interest for researchers and psychotherapists but the issue of sibling and peer relationships has been relatively neglected. This workshop will provide an opportunity to explore the significance of sibling relationships in small and larger group contexts.

There will be one or two short presentations about sibling relationships – focused on research findings and the theme of siblings in mythology. However, the day will be mostly based around experiential groups which will provide a forum for the exploration of sibling relationships in families and groups.

Who is the workshop intended for?

This workshop is designed for psychologists, other health care professionals, those who work in groups and in social and community settings. It assumes no prior knowledge of the therapy models presented.
