The Health of the Nation: Psychology and Communities

Saturday 20th September 2014 at Dylan Thomas Centre, Swansea

The conference will have a broad theme of exploring health in and beyond Wales, with a focus on how to take health-research out of isolated academic environments in order to engage the many different social and cultural groups in diverse communities such as Wales. The purpose of the conference is to showcase the main areas in which psychological research, community engagement and intervention is being carried within the areas of both physical and psychological health. This conference is open to specialist and non-specialist audiences.

The first keynote speaker, Dr Rachel Iredale will demonstrate how we can endeavour to tackle health inequalities in Wales through exciting, innovative and engaging projects that exist in the community.

The final keynote speaker, Prof Paul Bennett from Swansea University will provide a thought-provoking critique of the problems facing communities in Wales in terms of both mental and physical health, drawing upon both specific cultural examples within Wales and examples from beyond Wales to demonstrate the challenges and potential benefits that can be seen.

Who is the course intended for?
We welcome submissions from any of the following: Members of the BPS, health professionals, academics from other disciplines, students and the general public.
