Motivational Interviewing with Claire Lane

Saturday 1st November and Saturday 29th November at Holiday Inn, Bristol City Centre

Claire Lane is a Clinical Psychologist with years of relevant experience in research and as a practitioner in Motivational Interviewing. Claire will provide a two day workshop to enable participants of all levels to develop in their Motivational Interviewing skills. The workshops will primarily be lead by Claire and will have an interactive element.

Learning outcomes and objectives

By the end of the event participants will have:

  • Engaged in a wide range of learning experiences, including interactive discussions, skills practice, practical exercises, observing videos and live demos of practice and reflective practice.
  • Reflected upon their current consulting style, discussed their current practice with clients, and considered how MI may fit with their daily work.
  • Developed a good understanding of the spirit and processes of MI, and how these are translated into practice.
  • Practiced using OARS (basic counselling skills) to explore clients' ambivalence towards and readiness to make changes.
  • Developed some skills in recognising and responding to discord and change talk, and have an understanding of their role in making changes.
  • Gained experience of using and applying MI through demonstration and practice within a protected environment.
  • Some ideas about how to become more skilled at MI beyond the workshop, and a desire to continue learning and developing skills in using MI in practice.

Who is the course intended for?

All those interested (BPS and non BPS members) in developing Motivational Interviewing Skills.

The workshops will run on 2 days, these can be attended individually but attendees would benefit from attending both.
