FPOP National Conference - Beyond the stereotypes of ageing: Tales of the unexpected

Monday 1st - Tuesday 2nd July 2019 at Southport Theatre and Convention Centre

The Faculty for the Psychology of Older People (FPOP) holds a two day national conference each year to promote developments in the work of older people’s and dementia services. Each region hosts the conference in turn, but the idea is to bring together practitioners and interested partners from across the United Kingdom and beyond to share areas of good practice and novel developments, and promote the importance of a psychologically informed approach in working with older adults.

FPOP has a reputation for being an inclusive group; practitioners of all backgrounds, and service user and care partners are invited to be involved in planning, presenting and attending the conference, and it is hoped that this year’s theme (see below) will appeal to a large range of attendees.

This year’s conference will be hosted by the North West branch of FPOP and will be held in Southport. The theme is ‘beyond the stereotypes of aging’. This is due to the fact that the older population is changing. Issues which were previously unheard of, or at least unspoken about, when working with older people are now forming an integral part of the work we undertake therefore submissions will be invited from across the specialties and faculties of the British Psychological Society and open to partners across the spectrum of working with older people. We aim to provide a varied programme that will be useful to all who have an interest in working psychologically with older people, but also to appeal to those who work across the life span and/or may like to consider additional complexity.
