This event is designed to help neuropsychologists improve their skills and knowledge in the assessment of mental capacity, in clinical and medicolegal contexts.
The day will begin by outlining the basics, both in terms of clinical and medicolegal practice, and requirements of the Court. Prof Graham Powell will talk on the cognitive neuropsychology of decision making, with respect to the assessment of mental capacity, and His Honour Senior Judge Denzil Lush will address what the Court requires of an expert.
The morning will end with a Q&A session with a Panel dealing with matters arising from the morning session.
The afternoon is very practical and will have clinicians and medicolegal practitioners outlining their recent experiences of assessing capacity in a range of contexts. Cases will reflect day to day and complex clinical questions as well as considering how to defend an assessment under cross examination in Court.
