Monday 5th September 2016 at BPS Offices, Tabernacle Street, London

Please note this event is now fully booked and we are operating a waiting list. If you would like to register on the waiting list please follow the booking link below.

This workshop will explore the theory of memory as well as the use of memory tests in clinical settings. The psychological concept of memory will be critically considered. Attendees will learn the principles of memory testing and gain hands on experience of administration and interpretation of the Wechsler Memory Scale. The meaning of results obtained from such tests and their reliability will be discussed.

This workshop focuses on memory measures, in particular the use of the Wechsler Memory Scale-IV. It is one of three workshops intended to build the skills of psychologists working in clinical settings to an advanced level in the administration and interpretation of Wechsler tests. Other tests will be discussed in a contrast and compare style so attendees will have a clear view of psychometric measures available for use in the area of memory.

Who is the event for?

This workshop will be particularly useful for those psychologists at the end of their accredited training or post qualified who have not had the opportunity to engage in psychometric training and need to develop knowledge of memory. This will be a combination of both theory and hands on practice so attendees will be able to take their learning back to their workplace.

Learning outcomes and objectives:

  1. Know the theories of memory which underpin the use of memory measures
  2. Know the principles which allow accurate administration of Wechsler based materials such as the WMS and other measures of memory
  3. Know how to interpret results of memory tests
  4. Understand the importance of providing appropriate feedback to clients
  5. Understand the implications of test results to determine access to services and also in a court setting
