East Midlands Business and Skills Agenda
Venue: The Belfry, Nottingham
Date: Thursday 4th June 2009 - Friday 5th June 2009
Introduction
TACKLING THE EAST MIDLANDS BUSINESS AND SKILLS AGENDA
Friday 5th June 2009, The Belfry, Nottingham
A high-level, FREE, half-day conference aimed at helping businesses across the East Midlands meet their training needs in an uncertain economic climate.
There can be little doubt that companies which continue to invest in upskilling their workforce will be in better shape to take advantage of the economic upturn when it arrives.
At the same time, the current climate is placing significant pressure on businesses of all sizes and Government agencies, principally the Learning and Skills Council (LSC), are responding with a range of initiatives geared to helping companies keep their training plans on track.
Organised by the East Midlands Business Forum (EMBF) and funded by the LSC East Midlands, this conference is designed to help companies pro-actively shape the support which the ‘supply side’ is delivering in the region, tackling this crucial business issue head-on.
The event will:
• examine the latest thinking on economic prospects with top-ranking economist, Prof Douglas McWilliams,
• look at the impact of the downturn in the East Midlands and how it has affected the training agenda, and
• briefly analyse the latest skills support measures which have been introduced
Importantly, however, the emphasis is very much on providing a platform for businesses to identify their requirements in order to help them meet the skills challenge.
Who should attend:
• Senior executive directors from East Midlands companies, whatever their size – in particular those who have training issues they need to address
There is no delegate fee to attend and a networking buffet lunch will be provided. The conference will begin at 9.00am and conclude at 2.00pm.
The East Midlands Business Forum brings together the leading business representative organisations in the region - the East Midlands CBI, East Midlands Chambers of Commerce, EEF Midlands Region, the Federation of Small Business and the Institute of Directors.
