Date:Wednesday 29th July 2009

Introduction

As part of the ongoing training and development of the nextstep network the LSC are running a half-day workshop on Thursday 30th July 2009 for managers and Advisers from nextstep centres. This event is important in taking forward the development of  the IAG service to adults in preparation for the new aacs in 2010. It will focus on training staff in the use of the Skills Diagnostic Tool which assists clients and Advisers in identifying their existing skills and their skill development needs. The event will also introduce the new Learner Support Tool which will help Advisers and clients in identifying funding support for Level 3 learning and will explain how this links to the Skills Account which will store information from the Skills Diagnostic so that it is accessible to clients.

"Skills Accounts and the skills health check will be essential tools coupled with high quality skills and training advise and practical guidance which will enable individuals to make informed choices about the learning and skills they will need to advance in work and life.  Embedding Skills Accounts and the skills health check in the nextsteps network by Autumn 2009 will be a key milestone as we move towards the creation of an adult advancement service by 2010"
Sue Peake, Regional Skills Director - Strategy (Learning and Skills Council).

"The nextstep service allows us to identify and support those for whom a lack of skills or qualifications is a barrier and supply the additional training and support needed.  As a Skills Accounts trial region we are informing the shape of the adult advancement and careers service and helping the learners to take control of their learning and working life"
Rachel Reynolds, Business Development Director (GuideLine Career Services).
