Workshops

There will be three workshops running throughout each event:

1. How your business can benefit from employing an apprentice.  Many businesses are future proofing their workforce growth and development, and preparing for the up-turn with strategies that include Apprenticeships. This workshop provides the opportunity to clarify what Apprenticeships are and how your business can benefit and dispel the myths and legends that exist around Apprenticeships. We will take you through the Apprenticeship Employer Journey, demonstrating how easy it is to employ/convert an existing employee into an apprentice, share the business benefits that employers have experienced from employing Apprentices and update you on the latest government subsidies that are available to support you in employing an Apprentice.

2. Is your business fit for the upturn? 2008/2009 has been a testing time for many of the region's businesses and tapping in to free business support is more important than ever to keep your business sustainable and healthy. With an anticipated economic upturn predicted, is your business ready for brighter times to come? At this highly interactive workshop, you will learn more about the free business health check tools available to you through Business Link which will help you gauge how your business shaping up and what you can do it to improve to achieve that all important competitive edge.

3. Recruitment Subsidies. These are very difficult times for the regions economy, which is facing its biggest challenge in generations.  It's understandable that many businesses are worried, but the Government and Jobcentre Plus is committed to doing everything it can to support people and business.  Business surveys have shown increasing signs of improvement. At this interactive workshop, you will learn about how Jobcentre Plus can help your business take advantage of these opportunities and tap into the additional funding to support businesses, including a Recruitment Advisory Service available to you at no cost and Recruitment Subsidies of £1,000 for each long term unemployed customer recruited.
