Crime, Brain and the Law
Venue: Institute of Child Health, London
Date: Friday 26th March 2010
Introduction
"The BPS Division of Neuropsychology Post-Qualification day on Crime, Brain and The Law, brings together leading figures in the fields of Experimental Psychology, Neuropsychology, Forensic Psychology and Psychiatry to provide key insights into the treatment of vulnerable people within the Criminal Justice System (CJS).
There will be a general overview to neurological issues in offender groups, particularly related to risk of violence and rehabilitative needs. There will be consideration of what constitutes evidence, and how evidence is understood by juries - including the role of neuroimaging and witness memory. These issues, amongst others, will be considered within a high profile case - "The life and Trials of an Accidental Celebrity".
Plenary sessions will allow key issues that need to be addressed for Psychologists in the assessment and treatment of vulnerable people within the CJS. The day will be invaluable to anyone working with people within the CJS vulnerable due to neurodisability and/or mental health issues."
