FAQs

Which counties make up the East Midlands?
Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Northamptonshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Rutland. If your business is established in any of these counties then you are eligible to enter these awards.

Can I nominate a person for more than one award?
Yes you can but you would have to fill out separate forms for each award and give different reasons as to why the nominee should win the award.

Can I nominate myself and my own business for an award?
Yes you can but you would have to fill out the whole form in your own name where it asks for nominee details.

What is my personal data used for?
Any data that emda acquires about any nominee is confidential and will not be shared with any other parties.

Are there any types of businesses that cannot enter?
Businesses from all sectors are welcome to enter the awards providing that the owner is a woman or a woman owns more than a 50% equity stake or in the case where the entrant is not self-employed they must be a senior member of staff making a significant difference to the overall success of the company.

Are there any restrictions on what can be written in the application?
There are no restrictions. We are looking for creative and positive submissions that are entertaining and inspiring. Boast as much you like, but keep it honest!

Do I have to be a registered company?
Yes you do. We would look for the companies to be trading and not in development.

Do women who own small businesses stand as much of a chance of winning as women who own big businesses?
Of course, each submission is judged on its own merits. This is a celebration of all enterprising and innovative women in the East Midlands - regardless of business size.

How small is small?
In the Small Business of the Year category the company must have 10 employees or less.

What is the starting date for nominations?
Monday 26th October 2009

What is the closing date for applications?
Friday 15th January 2010, 5pm.
