An effective strategy for Business Support in the East Midlands underpins emda's role in improving the economy of the region, and this is delivered by emda's Business Services Directorate. The size of the Business Services Directorate and the diverse roles and work patterns of the staff means that there is the opportunity to improve team-building and directorate performance within the directorate. This one-day event for all staff within the Business Services Directorate to follow up on some key areas of the directorate's work, following on from the away day in 2007 is planned to:

• Develop a greater understanding of the Directorate's role in formulating emda's policy and driving delivery of emda's objectives, and the responsibilities within that of each team in the Directorate
• Welcome and inaugurate the staff that have recently joined the directorate and refresh current staff on this year's working. 

Ultimately, the key goal is to look at how we can continue to foster better inter-team relationships so that we become more aware of each others offerings by promoting teambuilding and working together in a corporate, interactive day, with staff involved in doing things, getting to know one another, with very clear messages and outcomes and committed actions.
