London Women in Business Conference

Venue: Hilton London Docklands
Date:Monday 21st November 2005 - Tuesday 22nd November 2005

Introduction

The London Development Agency (LDA) works to ensure that all London's communities and businesses can benefit from their city's success, encouraging them to achieve their true potential. Women make significant and vital contributions to the London economy. Women starting up in business will tend to provide a more immediate contribution to the economy, around one in five women come into self-employment from unemployment compared with around one in fifteen for men but they still face barriers to economic participation. Discrimination, lack of access to affordable childcare and the limited availability of part-time and flexible working can all prevent women from playing a full role in London's workforce. That's why the LDA along with partners are developing a regional women's enterprise programme and action plan, which will enable us to address the issues surrounding the survival and growth of women's enterprises as well as increasing the number of women starting and developing businesses.

We fully support the aims of the Women in Business Conference and we hope that you will be encouraged to develop your business, your skills and employment prospects and your personal life. You'll hear inspiring lessons in developing your own business from successful women entrepreneurs, and we hope you'll take full advantage of the information, knowledge and practical support provided by the conference seminars and the great networking opportunities available.
