Community Transport Partnerships Conference

Venue: Xscape, Castleford
Date:Tuesday 19th September 2006

Introduction

We all need transport to work, shop, access health care and to play our part in society. Transport is not however universally available to all of us. Access to transport will depend on how far we are able to walk, whether we can afford a car and how close we live to public transport.

Many coalfield communities provide examples of areas where difficulties are experienced.

There are examples where community enterprise plays a major role in providing transport to people with limited access. This is not however the case everywhere. Strong partnerships are needed between community level organisations and the agencies who plan transport, commission services and promote regeneration.

Community Transport Partnerships is a conference aimed at bringing planners, commissioners and providers together to explore how community transport can be used to promote accessibility and regeneration.

A keynote speech by the Minister for the Third Sector will set the context for a conference which seeks to identify best practice and practical ways in which we can all move forward together. We are also organising a complimentary informal networking buffet for the night before the conference, 20 September 06 for those wishing to attend. Accommodation can also be reserved at the nearby Tulip Inn.
